Learning Task 4- The Boy In Striped Pajamas

Chapter 5 comments and thoughts

In this chapter, I learn that Bruno's father is now working as a commandant with superior powers as Bruno himself is intimidated by his own father. He seem to prioritise his work more than his family as he listen but did not try to understand Bruno's frustrations. Bruno's father also has an obvious distaste towards people who he deemed as inferior such as the people in the concentration camp when he said "Those people... well, they're not people at all, Bruno."Saying "Heil Hitler" instead of goodbye to his son, Bruno, even though Bruno has no idea what it means also indicates that Bruno's father is forcefully implementing and spreading the Nazi propaganda which shows how influential the Fuhrer is in his life.

BISP-predictions

My first prediction based on it's synopsis is that the story would be a heartwarming and affectionate story. The subtle colour of baby blue on its cover suggests that the story would portray a feel of gentleness .

Secondly, I felt that the fonts were gentle and easy on the eye, symbolising the child's perspective on the story which is a darker and more serious matter in the eyes of adults.

Lastly, I think that the cover in general seemed like a children-friendly book as it in pastel colours and embodies a general perception of a story that will touch the hearts of people regardless of their age.

presentation and reflection

Presentation reflection

What feedback from your assessor do you agree with and why?

I agree that the powerpoint presentation my group and I presented on displayed clear and consistent font and each member of the group played their respective roles in making the presentation a success.

What feedback from your assessor do you disagree with and why?

I disagreed on my group and I not being able to explain unusual words clearly as I believe that we have chosen words that are quickly apprehended to suit the vocabulary of other fellow classmates.

What did you find most difficult about this presentation?

I found it difficult to present my speech smoothly as I stammered a lot while trying to talk about the factual information by memory.

What could you have done beforehand to avoid this difficulty?

I could have memorised my part of the speech thoroughly to avoid forgetting about facts and also to avoid unnecessary jitters.

What did you find easiest about this presentation?

I found the researching process for information from various sources on concentration camps easiest as I could gather plenty of information with a click of a finger from the internet.

What did you do beforehand to make this so?

I have read books beforehand relating to the holocaust and because I was particularly inclined towards topics related to the holocaust, I find researching easy and enjoyable.

What will you work on next time you do a presentation?

I will work on memorising my facts and knowledge about the given topic to improve the quality of content in my speech and also to prevent myself from stammering

reflection on group video

After watching the mock conference video my group and I performed in, I realise that our voices were not projected clearly thus our conversation could only be heard faintly. However, I believe that our improvisation worked well as the conversation flowed continuously. What we could've improved on were the lack of dramatic expression and our voice projection to pull in the audience's attention hence making the video more enjoyable in terms of viewing pleasure. Besides that, I personally think that with the help of props and/or costumes, it'll help us to be in character.

Reflection

In today's drama, we practised the skills of being a composed, eloquent and most importantly; being in character in a press conference scene with characters comprising of Victor Frankenstein, the creature, Reverend Worsey, Henry Clerval, Marie Franco and Mr Goran.

The scene followed the aftermath of the creature wrecking havoc in town and now, has to answer the questions of the people and also face his own master in the face to ask questions that he longed to ask for. I personally feel that the drama scene today help us reflect personally upon the characters hence giving us a human connection with the fictional characters. This will help us in writing personal reflections in our paper and also evaluate the story from a different perspective giving us new ideas to write on.
